And what might that be
Thank you all, for your help.

Re: Smiths Speedo Maintenance

I've never oiled one. It can be oil that jambs them up which is sometimes driven in by an over oiled cable.

Henk once told me that the non working speedos that he'd opened up, just needed cleaning and a few drops of very light machine oil applied to strategic points to fix them.

Re: Smiths Speedo Maintenance

If the speedo is working leave it alone. If you need to oil it treat it as Ron says using very light clock oil on the pivot points. It is basically a clock so treat it as such. Use light grease on the cable, not oil as it winds it's way into the speedo and clogs up the clutches in the mechanism.

Thanks Ian !
Appreciate the info. Also

Re: Smiths Speedo Maintenance

I have had a couple of speedos restored by Chronometric services.

I was told categorically 'do NOT' oil the speedo cable as it will drag oil into the speedo which is not a good thing.

Cronometric speedos do not need any maintenance as such unless they have any problems.
