Re: Triumph TRW Colour

Hi Ian

Deep Bronze Green is definitely too dark, I took my petrol tank, which has the original paint on the underside, along to a local classic Land Rover restoration specialist and compared it to a couple of Deep Bronze Green Land Rovers he had in, the tank looked very 'Olive' next to these vehicles.

Today I took it to an auto paint mixer specialist who had a very clever Spectrometer which they used to scan the tank, the result was 96.2% accurate for a certain paint colour however, he wouldn't tell me the resulting name or paint code as their policy is not to pass that information to private individuals to stop them buying paint elsewhere cheaper. All he would tell me was that it was a NATO military gloss colour, but not a Land Rover colour... !

Re: Triumph TRW Colour

There are about a dozen different Dark Bronze Greens. It's not quite as difficult to pin down as 'British Racing Green', but almost. If the supplier can more or less match it then why not use them ?

With lead now illegal, no modern representation of a 1940s or 1950s colour is ever going to truly replicate the original colour under all light conditions.

We do the best that we can, but we'll never achieve 100%

Here is the BS 381C colour chart. There is also Light and Mid Bronze Green.
