Hi all,

I have bought a toolbag with contents this evening. I am not sure for which brand MC this toolbag is. The contents are mostly Triumph (3HW) but there is also an Ariel WNG clutch tool present. The toolbag itself looks very similar to the toolbag pictured in the the early Ariel WNG illustrated partslist.

Does anyone recognize this toolbag and/or is willing to share his views?

To answer your question, I have no idea. I know that the later Ariel tool roll was different, but as you say, it looks very much like the one in the earlier W/NG parts list. Hopefully somebody will have a war time picture with an early W/NG "under repair"...

Are those belt loops on the back of the tool bag?,the two photos below are of pre war Triumph tools and the tool bag,some of these tools were used on the WD models,some were changed for cheaper items such as the screw driver,tool bag in the 3HW parts list looks similar,but dont know if it would be canvas?

I don't think that my toolbag is a Triumph one as it looks to different from the one in your partslist. The canavs straps are indeed on the back of the toolbag.

I think that I have to look for more Ariel WNG photos.

The key shaped thing in your second picture is for the clutch screws, but there doesn't appear to be one in the Triumph kit. The little spanner with the spade end at the bottom of your last pic is a Norton tool. Ron

Hi Ron and Bastiaan,
The clutch nut key (DA70) I believe appeared in some 3HW parts lists but not all. Funnily enough i took delivery of an NOS one just yesterday.
From what I can make out they were in use in civvy tool kits from the 1930s, and DA70 was the part number for many years. I've not seen any variation in design of the key.

Hi Ron,
I have just noticed an error in my previous statement; if Bastiaan's clutch nut is a DA70 it doesn't have the two square holes seen on others (fork spindle size maybe?), so there must be a design variation after all.

Bastiaan - if you want to sell yours let me know, my NOS one is probably wrong for a WW2 kit!! 😆😂

All the tools in this toolbag are available for a swap against BSA M20 tools. I am only interested in the toolbag itself and I am still looking for the following M20 tools:
-tappet feelers
-spanner tommy bar
-screwdriver attachment
-Romac tyre repair outfit (the early war type)
