Magdyno audible buzz

Dear All

This morning I started the bike for the first time in a couple of weeks but became aware of an audible buzzing sound coming from what I think is the magdyno. has anyone encountered this before and if so does anyone know what it may be. I have made a quick video and posted on youtube, link below.

Re: Magdyno audible buzz

Bit hard to tell from the video, try unclamping the dynamo and sliding it back so its just disengaged. Clamp up just disengaged and try again to see if the sound had gone.

Re: Magdyno audible buzz

Very often this happens when the regulator contacts remain closed and the battery is trying to motor the dynamo.

Pasted clip and got a vid on commercial fleet maintenance.
Check bronze bush on dynamo, when dry or excessively worn they can make an awful noise, it's under the slide over coupon bakelite facing and should have a small felt washer underneath, a good dollop of oil won't go amiss.

Re: Magdyno audible buzz

I recently had a noise in mine which could be described as a buzzing noise I suppose. It soon disappeared and I noticed the generator wasn't charging. I found the fibre gear had failed and the steel generator gear acting like a grinder until the fibre gear wore out of mesh. Maybe worth pulling back the generator to see if that's the problem.
