Locking wire

Just watched Brian Alfonso Do some work on his refurb of a BSA B31.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5LlrgbNYUo

At 4:15 he works on an oil pump. He locks it off. Is it worth doing the same to the M20 pump?
Also thinking of locking off the nuts when I fit the Chain case to the engine. What size wire is recommended?

Re: Locking wire

The chain case bolts that retain the inner cover to the crank case are cross drilled for wiring as standard....So, wire those. If one comes loose they can tangle with the engine sprocket and that probably wouldn't be pretty.....

Personally, I've never wired the oil pump bolts in 40 years...I guess it depends on how much you worry about these things...

The oil pump retaining bolts should have spring washers fitted....Ian

Re: Locking wire

I use allen bolts cross drilled for lock wire on B & M series oil pumps. This allows you to just nip up the bolts without distorting pump body. Also makes it easier for removing anmd refitting pump with engine in bike..

Re: Locking wire

Thanks. Have lock washers on mine. Just wondered if it was common practice. Will do chain case. What size wire is usual. 0.4mm or maybe 0.6mm?
