I have been offered valanced fenders from a 1939 m20
I have a few doubts about their originality
Does anyone have a few pictures of these on a bike
Did they have a hinge at the rear join or the two bolts that hold them together

Were the skirts welded on to the guards and then the joint covered by chrome strips ?

Any info would be welcomed

Hi lee

They were not hinged originally - they are a 2 piece assembly with a tail piece secured by 2 special bolts - this hinge is a post war feature - at least to my knowledge

My valenced guards here are ribbed centre & the valenced sides seem to be secured by a rolled over seam - the tail piece also has a small section of rib - the same tail piece continued for the ribbed non valenced guard until the introduction of the flat rear section guard

I can take photos of mine later - I will have to send direct as I cannot load photos with my phone or iPad here

You may have an Ariel deluxe mudguard if it has a hinge.

Do the ariels have chrome trim strips on the join between the fender and the valanced skirts ?

A picture would help a lot. It's difficult to identify a part I can't see.

I think I've seen that fender before on a light green 1944 bitsa. If it was, they did not look genuine to me.
