Valve guide and valve stern clearance 3HW

Gent's

I want to make my selves new valve guides for my triumph 3HW.

going through the various manuals I calculated the following clearances :

inlet min 0.0508 mm inlet max 0.0889 mm
outlet min 0.08128 outlet max 0.119 mm

to me these figures looks very high. I would expect halve of those figures

anybody some experience on these tolerances ?

Re: Valve guide and valve stern clearance 3HW

They look normal to me for an engine of that period (once I'd converted them to Imperial!)....Saying that I'd keep the exhaust one down to an upper limit of .004" (0.10mm)...

However, if you are changing the valve guide material (cast iron?) to something like 'Colisbro' or a similar low expansion bronze then you could close things up a bit to a more 'modern' tolerance...Ian
