Copper crankcase gasket?

Hi...I have put together my crankcases after put in a new big end bear assembly. I had to shim the drive side so the crank pin nut does make contact with the casing. When I put the timing side casing on and tightened it all up the flywheels were locked. So my thoughts on a solution is to make and fit a 1mm copper gasket. How have other BSA owner/restorers fixed this issue?

Re: Copper crankcase gasket?

didn't do it myself but I have seen the nut ground down on the one side that had been contacting the casing.
Some nuts seem to be thicher than others and some are chamfered which helps.

Re: Copper crankcase gasket?

There must be something wrong with the assembly! The spacer between the bearings must not be less than one inch. If you space the crankcases apart, will the cylinder fit anymore? Will the crankcase fit properly between the engine plates? Ron

Re: Copper crankcase gasket?

don't forget the oilflinger (or a spacer the same thickness)
