Clutch side play?

Hi All
Resto on my WM20 is progressing nicely.Engine runs, gears select, clutch seems O.K. but I'm a bit worried because when the clutch lever is pulled in the whole clutch basket/sprocket assembly moves out about 1/8". Is this normal and if not any idea's whats wrong.Clutch seems to work O.K, possibly a very small amount of drag but gears select. No nasty noises.
I can't see that I've left anything out and if the movement was end float on the main shaft I would have thought gear selection would have been difficult.
Any help/ideas would be great before I start taking things to bits.
Thanks
John

Re: Clutch side play?

I would first suspect that the nut that holds the clutch center is loose. The one the push rod comes through. I would dismantle the clutch for inspection. It shouldn't move on the main shaft and 1/8" seems very excessive for main shaft end float. Ron

Re: Clutch side play?

Thanks Ron, its the first thing I will look at. Perhaps it didn't seat properly when I assembled the clutch. By the way the clutch spring compressor I bought from you worked perfectly
Thanks again

Re: Clutch side play?

I've had similar problems & found the activating rod was too long
