Paint Question- How to best preserve cracked original finish?

I don't want to strip the original paint, that feels like sacrilege. But it's cracked and chipped and I want to keep it from getting worse. Suggestions?

For protecting rough but original paint, you could coat components with a clear satin or matte clear finish lacquer. I don’t believe that you would want to use a gloss or crystal clear lacquer.

I would clean the surfaces to be coated throughly, and start with something like the side stand to see if the effect
is to your expectations.

3M do some stuff called “FinesseiIt”, it cleans the dirty and crud of the paint but doesn’t take off a layer of it like compound or T-cut would. I wasn’t convinced until i saw a demo on the wing of a white car with bit of masking tape and then this stuff rubbed on next to it. The results were amazing, paint you thought was white looked light grey when they pulled the tape off. Not cheap but then what value do you put on original paint?
