Hundreds of un-issued Welbike's where bought up in 1945 by New York department store 'Gimbels' and advertised for sale in the 'New York Sunday Herald' just in time for Christmas that year. Lots were also bought by a strange freemasonry sect called the 'Shriners'. The Shriners had a thing for small, brightly painted and chromed vehicles for their annual parades which were often fitted with sireeens to attract more attention!!!??
The Welbike in it's original state was not a legal contender for British highways.....But in the land of the free, you can live the dream:relaxed: Ron
