Jet sizes 1959 M21 with sidecar

Hello everybody

I just bought a project. Stored outside for 5 yrs under a leaky tarp. Leaks oil from engine and primary. Cracked tyres. No spark. Thourougly rusted all over. Even plants thriving in the sidecar! I have no experience with restauring classics, so bear with me.

I was referred here from the Britbike forum. Apparantly I had to few cylinders..

Hopefylly this is the "right" forum.

So as pr advise i started on the carb.

I want to order the "major stay up repair kit" from AMAL.

Please advise me on main jet, needle jet and pilot jet sizes. I do not know witch to choose. Its a jungle of options.

Oh. Its a 376 carb.

Help me get this beauty on the road

Re: Jet sizes 1959 M21 with sidecar

Hi Hans and welcome to the forum...The choke (bore) size of the carb should be 1 1/16".
A 250 main jet, 30 pilot jet, 1065 needle jet (the 'half size' needle jets are no longer made so use a 106 instead)...Throttle slide cutaway No.5 ..So the slide should be numbered on the top with a 5 or 376/5....

Nice to see someone has fitted leading link forks...That will improve the handling with the sidecar...

Good luck with the project...You are now on the right forum!....Ian:relaxed:

Thank you for a swift reply Ian!

Will this number be of assistance? I got a bit confused by your answer. Sometimes my english fails me.

Re: Jet sizes 1959 M21 with sidecar

So I googled.

the "Throttle slide cutaway No.5" is the "piston" in the carb.

Would you recommend I change thatone also? After some cleaning it seems to be working fine.

If I come across as simple please answer simple

I will have to learn the ropes from scratch.

Re: Jet sizes 1959 M21 with sidecar

Welcome aboard Hans.
It was a little jibe at the others on Britbike which is mostly A65 & A75 owners.
Keep in touch with them, they are a good group but you will find more M experience here than there.
From memory there is about 30 or so M owners on Britbike and only 4 of us post regularly.

Please send Henk a photo of your bike to add to the gallery section .

And most of all have fun, that is what it is all about.

Re: Jet sizes 1959 M21 with sidecar

Hi Trevor. Thanks for the welcome.

I got the jibe :joy: , even showed to my wife!

Sound advise to lead me to this forum.

I did some research on my carb, ang guess what:

I have a 376/29 1 inch carburetter from a Royal Enfield fitted to my M21. The original 376/88 carburetter would have been slightly larger at 1 1/16 inches. Jetsizes should fit, so Ill fit the ones recommended :grimacing:
