Auto jumbles are a good place to buy a WD type speedometer, at last years Founders Day rally there was a dealer selling reconditioned speedos he had two WD types amongst about twenty odd other chronometrics, £300 cash or £150 plus your old one in exchange, don't know if he does other jumbles but he's been at Founders Day the last few years.
I believe that Dave Horror bought a nice Jaeger-pattern early-type WD speedo from Malcolm Leech last year and David Woods will usually exchange any decent rebuildable Chronometric for one rebuilt to WD spec. I have an idea that the internal frames differed if the trip was not fitted but it is not visible once built and his faces are good.
There is no cheap way to obtain a decent working instrument. The only savings to be made are perhaps in not paying over the odds for a donor.
