I always thought this was wrong (see photo below) two screws + two studs with nuts,but looking at this 8th army M2O photo it looks like this is correct,it must be the four screws for the aluminium cover only then.

You are absolutely right Steve, the early alloy covers used 4 screws but the steel plate covers are listed in the mid to late war spares lists as two screws and two studs with washers and nuts.

I had never noticed that before.
