First tune for a new 276 carb?

The Amal I have on my M20 is a new item. It was built from NOS parts bought over the years, not a new complete device that was supplied calibrated or tuned from the manufacturer. I would like to know how to make the first tune to start the engine and then, with a warm engine – how to make the finer tune? I am trying to avoid manuals and so and searching more after explanations from you guys. AFAIK, the screw that goes up into the body is for tuning the main slide = for idle, and the 2nd bolt that goes parallel is for the mixture. Any help will be much appreciated.

Re: First tune for a new 276 carb?

Assuming that all specifications - jets and slide etc. are correct then there isn't a lot to tune on a single-cylinder. I'd set the angled tickover screw so it was just lifting the slide and the horizontal pilot air screw 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 turns out. Once it's warm, the pilot air screw can be adjusted to give fastest tickover and the slide height altered if necessary.
