It's quite difficult as it's not a WD motorcycle and I suspect that it's Continental. Could the photo have been taken at the end of the war ? (Unless he was an officer, then probably as he is wearing an open-collared battledress).
Those horizontal mudguard stay lugs with rod-type stays were falling out of fashion by the early 1930s so it's quite an oldish bike by the time of the photo.
