Well I thought my M20 was almost finished so I thought a little test ride was in order. But then I lost first and second gear. Bugger. So off with the side covers and found that the selector pin had fallen out. So now the box is back in bits on the bench.

So what is the secret to keeping these selector pins from coming loose?

The pins are not strait sided, they are shouldered.
The bottom of the hole has a tapper / chamfer at the end and the pin is expanded to fill the hole much like a rivet with a center punch.
Prewar & war ones were a plain pin post war ones were a roller.

this was a nos unit i purchased. i checked the other pin as well and neither pin had been expandered.Now all fixed i also placed the pins in the freezer overnight to get a good tight fit.
