Re: Quick spark plug question

And because you are not going to foul on the piston I use BP5HS in mine otherwise they foul on that possum pee we get dished up to run our bikes on.

Re: Quick spark plug question

It seems the Australians might have some strange fuel..(and it's sunny more often)..If you are from that part of the world take note of Trevors comments..

If you are in blighty or Europe Rob and Rons recommendations are the ones to go for...Use a Champion N5C or NGK equivalent if you have an alloy head fitted...Ian

Re: Quick spark plug question

perhaps so but projecting electrodes will still give a better burn even if the engine is running on that fuel fog mix so prevelant in the old Dart

Re: Quick spark plug question

Hi,

I live in a relatively hot country (25-30c at summer)
I fill unleaded 95 fuel, and use L-10 or L86C "Champion" sparkplugs with no issues.
Can Ian or Trevor (Or anyone ) explain what is the benefit of using
A plug with a projected electrode, or B6HS VS BP5HS?

And another question, a bit off topic:

I have a new carb,(few years old, done only few thousand of Km, clean and standard jetted)
And a newly rebuilt mag (Re wound, new cap, points and all)
A new champion sparkplug, and the ignition is timed correctly.

Now, when the plug is gaped as per manual, the engine "hiccups" from time to time
When idling. s sort of "missing a bit" every few seconds.

I noticed that if I gap the plug to much wider gap (Say 0.5-0.8mm)
The bike idles smoothly.

Any thoughts?...

Thanks,
Noam.

Re: Quick spark plug question

The projecting electrode
1) cools better because it it poking out in the gas stream
2) gives a better flame front for the same reason

Because it cools better you can run a hotter plug, hence the 5 where as most of you are running 6's and the strait equivalent it a 7.

They also are far less prone to fouling and tracking particularly as I am using a hotter plug and they are also a lot easier to clean.

Champion do projected electrodes but I have no idea how they code them.
I keep 22 grades of champions for small engines becuse they seem to work better in small 2 strokes than NGK's and I keep 38 grades in NGK with about 6 overlapping grades.

Noam did a good bit on plugs a while back

Re: Quick spark plug question

Thanks Trevor

Now the only remaining question is why "longer" spark (Bigger gap)
Would run smoother for me...

Cheers!
Noam.
