Re: Speedometer question

See this recent thread, where I posted a picture of the speedo drive. The cable for these is a standard item with the same square at each end. Just measure between the speedo and drive to get the length.

Re: Speedometer question

I found this one - see link bellow (I know its not the original one). I have the original one home but missing the part that is driving the speedo cable - the sprocket. If any one has a replace I am interested to buy it. Because I didnt find anyone to sell spare parts for this type of speedo drive.

Will it fit for Smiths S433?

Re: Speedometer question

No! This will be the type mentioned in the other thread with the wrong rotation. Ron

Re: Speedometer question

The rotation must be anticlovkwise????

Re: Speedometer question

Mitja. When you hold one of the correct M20 units as in the picture I posted, if you turn the two drive dogs clockwise then the speedo cable square should also turn clockwise.

Re: Speedometer question

Here is my speedo drive, that was on my whell when I bought my BSA. The problem is the spindle is missing - the one that turns the cable - picture three.

Re: Speedometer question

Mitja you will be very lucky to find that part separately. Most of everything you see is the wrong rotation for our M20's and therefore the spiral gear on that shaft will be wrong. Ron

Re: Speedometer question

To help identify the part you need. Here is the spiral gear from a Matchless G3L type speedo. You will need one with the spiral cut the opposite way. Ron

Re: Speedometer question

Is there any alternative to other speedo drives, where to buy one or where to buy the original one.

Re: Speedometer question

For the RWC (South African equivalent of MOT), I fitted an electronic bicycle speedometer.

Re: Speedometer question

Hi Mitja

One option is, just attach the cable to the speedo and speedo drive with no inner cable inside. Of course your speedo won't work but who will really know apart from you It will look the part and off course M20's don't go fast enough to need a speedo
