I'm in the last phase of rebuilding my Ariel WNG with NOS engine. I'm close to start the engine for the first time.
Now I'm aware that the (freely moving) engine has not run since it was build some decades ago.
Besides filling the oil tank with fresh oil and some oil in the rocker box is there a need to prime the oil system, as in priming the oil pump for example to let it suck oil from the tank immediately (instead of sucking air the first minute). If so, how is this done?
Just keep kicking it over with the valve lifter. If you do it enough you should get the oil to return. But as long as you feel the oil is being drawn into the engine, just start up and keep to a tick over until you see it return. Sometimes it can be a nerve racking few minutes while the sump gets to the scavenge level. Ron
