Something very unfortunate happened today. I was tightening the two bolts that hold together the oil pump and they both came loose. I think I tightened it using a bit of force. Can an oversize bolt be used now?
Thankfully the oil pump is out of the engine now.
Others better qualified by me may be able to state if they can be re-tapped to a larger size. I think the main issue will be the head size on any new bolts will have to be made smaller to fit the confined space. But it could be do-able. Failing that can you get a helicoil insert put in them? Unsure if that size is readily available as I've never had to use one (touch wood). Again it might require reduction of the head size of any new bolt if it has to be done in a none original thread form.
