I have seen wartime pictures of both upturned silencers and 'straight' silencer on WM20s , now my question is, was there a cut off year for the upturn or was it just down to supply and manufacturers?
I don't know the actual start date, but they must have reverted to the tipped up silencer sometime mid war, obviously after too many standard silencers were grounded when off road. Here is a well know picture of a sleeping guy on a bike from contract S2603 (8000 bikes from March 43 to June 44) and a scan from my 44 parts list.
Armours make the tipped up silencer to my specification in mild steel or stainless. Ron
This is the assumption I'd come to as well. Yes the guy sleeping on the machine, I have a copy of this, love the sten gun leaning up the pannier. Thank you very much for the reply.
