Fork reassembly advice

Hi all

Have done lots on maintenance on my '44 M20 over the years but never had the forks off before

I am dry rebuilding my '40 project & could do with advice on how to re-assemble the forks - in particular how to build in & compress the spring

All the rest seems straight forward - the spring is an original NOS

Is there a BSA technical sheet or any other printed document anyone can share with me

Many thanks

Re: Fork reassembly advice

The procedure I adopt for pretty well all the girders I build is the much the same. In a nutshell:-

1) Put the steering stem and top clip in place (roughly adjust the head races at this point)

2) Put the spring on the forks and fit the lower spindles. (the fork blade is now swinging/hinged in the middle, so some protection for your paintwork with rags or cardboard is advisable)

3) Enter the top of the spring into the top clip. (a bit of force or bending the spring is needed, but I always manage it quite easily on my own)

4) Now strain the top of the forks into place to line up the top links.

5) finally adjust the links and head races as required.

6) Or bring it here and I'll show you

Re: Fork reassembly advice

Thanks Ron

Much appreciated

I see how the need to protect the paint work Is required when trying to manipulate the spring

I'll give it a go once all the replacement bushes are in place

Best regards
