Clarity on small gearbox parts - Pics Included

Hello,

I am fixing my gearbox with a lot of help from the M20 forum. I found 3 parts and I'm wondering what the actual purposes of these parts are? Please help me in identifying these parts and the purposes they serve.

Re: Clarity on small gearbox parts - Pics Included

Hi,
number two is only to secure the two bolts that hold the cover to the gear box housing.
Number three is to hold the kick start spring inside the cover in place. Very important.
Number one is more difficult to discribe ...

Number one is the spring loaded plunger that locates in a 'dimple' in the back of the gear indexing plate...

Its purpose is to provide the 'self centering' function between gear changes for the gear change mechanisms...

When the plunger is removed from its housing a spring will be found behind it....Ian

Thank you so much for the valuable information shared. Looks like the plunger is stuck to the housing on my gearbox.
Any tips to release this? I guess it has been that way for a long time now.

Hi Henry,

You can drill a small hole in the back of the housing and punch the plunger out.

and weld the hole if you like, although I don't think it will cause any problems.

Cheers, Michiel
