Hi, finally got round to putting my gearbox back together M20, primary drive all connected up but outer cover still off. I went to kick it over while I was setting the clutch and the kickstart leaver would not return it does with a little help from me, I have taken the outer cover off everything looks OK to me.
I eventually fitted the old kickstart quadrant and it returns OK apart from the play in the steel sleeve . The gearbox turns freely and I have fitted a NOS ratchet pinion and bush, the quadrant is a pattern one .
Anyone had similar problems or any advice welcomed

Sounds like the bush needs a bit of a hone? You could probably relieve it with one of these type hones. I have them in various sizes, down to wheel cylinders.Ron
Thanks Ron, I never said but when the outer case is off the bike the kickstart leaver returns OK with the new quadrant in . it's as if the teeth are meshing to tightly I think.
