Why is it the simplest of things sometimes cause the greatest difficulty?

My '58 M21 is fitted with the (correct) QD 7" crinkle rear hub and my parts book says I need brake cam lever 65-6297 but I can't find one anywhere. 42-6045 is given as an alternative but won't fit because the offset (an offset is necessary for the brake rod to clear the inside of the plunger) is too great and it fouls the brake plate by a good 1/4 inch.

The first picture shows 42-6045 and the second picture shows my attempt to modify to fit (which I nearly succeeded in doing) before I ran out of talent and broke it

Does anyone know where I might get a replacement (maybe the A10 and Goldstar boys bought them all ) or is there another way around this?
