Dear friends of the ole iron rust in the name of the piled arms!
i got offered a M 20 bj 1937, nearly complete (mus look and investigate the bike, partly restored.
When i get her, I want to bring her on the road.
I don´t have the complete history of this bike so I don´t want to make mistakes by making her civilian, when she was military or vice versa.
Who can give me tips, how i can identify a civilian from a military bike (not by the colour), are there different frame or engine numbers?
According to O&M Only one prototype M20 was ordered by the War Office in 1936 and three in 1937. Proper contracts were ordered in 1938 for the KM20 model. Ron
Could it be a M22 with M20 engine? If it has 39 or later engine, rear frame should be modified. Some pictures would be nice to see.
Henk, could you tell where my M22 (JM19 2355) was sent from the factory?
JM19 2355 left the factory 11-04-1938 with an M22 engine with number 427. It went to what seems to read: Anglo North Europ. LB3. Could be wrong as it's very hard to read, especially the LB3 part.
Hello Henk!
I haven't seen the bike personaly, only some pictures.
The engine has the nr 60666 and the engine looks like a regular sv engine with the typical plate at the right side.
Greetings from Austria (Vienna is about 50 km from me).

Then it clearly has wartime M20 engine fitted. Later engine does not fit to the 37/38 frame so rear frame is modified or changed to the later type. Possibly there is more parts from WD M20. If you could post photos to this forum you get all information you need to decide whether buy it or not.
It's not easy to find M22/23 engine. '37 and '38 are almost same except rocker box and pushrod tube. Post war B group engine looks also good in pre war frame though not original
