I know it's probably been discussed before a million times and it's just me being a day late and a dollar short as per usual, but I have been straining my eyes trying to figure out what the heck the 16H on the right has mounted on the headlamp brackets. Is it what's left over of the switch panel with the ammeter facing forward? I'm sure it's obvious and I will feel stupid! :-)

An interesting little lamp there! :-) They're 48th Highlanders of Canada, that I know, I've seen the photo before, just never noticed the lamp. That is a Tam O' Shanter he has on, and the wool bobble which isn't visible is called a toorie.
