Some questions about the different tools I have in my toolbox. I suppose that the more universal tools, like screwdrivers, adjustable spanners and pliers were not special standard BSA-items but were included in the tool roll “as available” on the commercial market. The numbers refer to the RAF Illustrated parts list.

1- tappet feelers 65-9130; still lacking, anybody
4- screwdriver EB261, marked “Wisvo tools”, is this at least British made?
19- pliers EB263, no brand name, no broad arrow,
21- Adjustable spanner EB262 “King Dick”-type; I have two, beck width 1/4" and 7/16", which one is original? And no brand name or broad arrow.
24- Chain repair tool 66-9166 and
31- Spare chain 66-9167 these two I also still need.
All info is welcome !

It seems likely that tools included within the kits supplied with the machine would not have carried the broad arrow marking but any replacements would. Study of the Norton listings shows that for the non-specialist tools, there were general WD replacements - not always identical in terms of length, being double or single ended etc.

The adjustable spanners were a design registered to Abingdon Works who also used the 'King Dick' brand name (but why and when they used each is not clear). Abingdon King Dick were owned by the Mansell family who were directors of R.T. Shelley (owners of Norton) and these spanners were also branded as 'Shelley'

For wartime capacity reasons, the design was also used by Richards of Sheffield (the penknife manufacturers) and although the form is the same, it was made of laminated steel (much like a penknife handle).

Nortons used a 6" version and these were 9/16" across the jaws.

There were several variations of these spanners, intended to 're-activate' the registered design protection. Do you have a photo of yours ?

Here are some pics of the spanners and pliers. The pliers measure approx. 5 1/4" and has no marks at all.
The spanners are 4 1/5" long; the left one is marked “MULTI” and the right one has a broad arrow. I obtained all at the Stafford Show, some 10 years ago, as being ‘original M20 tools’...
And then the insulating tape; which one could be ‘original’ ? Or none....
