Engine No. inquiry

Hi all,

I acquired this engine lately.
I think that it is one that was sold as a salvage from de Commissioned bikes,
Either right after the war, or later.

Who ever took it off, just cut the exhaust pipe and the magneto strap,
And did not bother to take it off gently.
The engine turned only a little bit, (By hand)and after one night with
Penetrating oil in the barrel, without removing the head, it turns
Nicely, the valves are working and there is a nice compression.

What I am curious about is the engine No.
It is 6465 (October 1939?) with no letters before or after,
And below, it is stamped "BRR"
Does someone have any info?

Thanks,
Noam.

Re: Engine No. inquiry

Noam, I'm not a BSA man, but I have some records. However, without a type / year prefix, it's all guesswork...KM20, WM20 ?

Have you cleaned the whole engine yet ?

Re: Engine No. inquiry

I have seen another engine without a prefix, it could be a replacement?

And you could clean a bit more of the engine to see if its stamped somewhere else.

Re: Engine No. inquiry

Hi Rik, Rob,

Thanks for your reply.

No, I haven't cleaned it all yet, but it should not be a problem.
I can clean it soon and see if there is something else anywhere.
As much as I looked for it in the usual places, there are no other number/letters.
I the prefix is usually there, with the engine No,
And this one should have came from a WM2O, so usually it should read
WM20 6465 (October 1939), but it does not.. I never saw a "BRR" stamped on an engine,
And was wondering what it stands for..

Cheer,
Noam.

Re: Engine No. inquiry

Hello Noam,

I have no idea about the BRR marking, but here's a thread about similar markings...
