The 'WD' gearbox, for want of a better description, has a vertical clutch operating lever that pivots on a pin fitted into two cast lugs on the gearbox outer cover...
This is quite distinct from the post war (post 1947) gearbox which had a horizontal operating arm that pivoted within the cover....
There were no major changes to the M20 gearbox throughout the war years and they were not numbered for a particular machine or marked with a date stamp...Ian
I have also found some useful info in the 'technical' section (I will visit there first before firing off a question in future)
Yes the gear box is complete Ian ! Not sure if it's working yet though....
I eagerly fired her up yesterday to hear that famous sound ....... it took me a fare few goes before she started ... I had a hell of a kick off her too.... and fuel vapour spat out of the carb. ( I think I flooded her) and didn't use enough advance ?
When pulling the clutch in ... I can't shift her up into first gear ! The gear foot pedal vibrates on the cogs but won't engage.
I'm currently browsing old gear box posts to learn more.
