Good grief........no wonder I have never seen a Matchless with a Vokes filter in the flesh! It's hardly an elegant bit of engineering. What with the close fit against fuel and oil caps not to mention the snugness against the Old Crown Jewels, it seems a bit of kit destined for early retirement. I don't feel tempted to recreate this lash-up! Why not just stick the tube from the carb up your jumper? Better still, you could stick the Vokes in the early gas mask satchel and wear that on your chest line they used to!
It's worse than that Ferg! Under the back end is a wooden block of which there were two shapes for the different G3L tanks. And the snugness you refer to is probably why the bollock protection pad was invented
