Are the riders foot pegs different on early M20's compared to later M20's ?

Looking at photos of 1939/40 models it appears that the foot pegs have rounded disc ends to hold the rubbers on.

Later models that are lacking rubbers look more flat and wider.

Indeed, Mark. As a consequence of the capture by the Japanese of Malaya and other rubber producing areas, rubber components were replaced by alternatives on most makes of WD motorcycle. This saw the deletion of knee grips, change to canvas handlebar grips, steel footrests etc.

In general, early-war machines have much more in common with the pre-war models.

There are 4 types of foot rests for the M20. The early type which is round and has hole in the end to fit a washer against the foot rest rubber. Another early type is oval shaped and has the same hole for the washer and bolt arrangement. Then there is the well known flat strip with the cross pattern on it. Finally there is a square section on foot rest which is post war which had a rubber with square hole fitted.
