Does anyone have any experience with the Indian made M20 k/s quadrants?
I have a couple of gearboxes to complete and can't find any usable second hand ones locally.
Note that the quadrant gear teeth and those of the mating kick start ratchet pinion have a far more 'pointed' tooth form than a typical gear to help engagement..
This tends to make them look more 'worn' than they actually are.
The first two or three teeth of the quadrant are also truncated for the same reason..
The ratchet pinion is subject to high loads however, leading to more rapid tooth wear than on the quadrant.. Wear in the ratchet pinion bush will also make this worse...
In most gearboxes I have worked on the ratchet pinion teeth have been completely worn out...
The tolerance on the bush and quadrant shaft are reasonably tight and when measured with a micrometer they will usually be found to be worn if the box has done much work...
The quadrant O.D should be 1.1855"-1.1865"..
The bush I.D should be 1.187"-1.188"
The clearance .0005"-.0025"
As the quadrant doesn't fully rotate but turns through arc both bush and shaft are generally worn unevenly and are therefore not round...Ian
