Confusion on rear brake plate

I brought a an original rear m20 rigid brake plate from ebay. The plate looks exactly the same as the the rear brake plate on my WM20, however when I tried to fit the spigot through the hole it would not fit when it got to the rear wheel adjuster part of the spigot, being about 1 mm too small. Has anyone came across this problem? The spigot is repro, but a tried an original with the same problem. am thinking of putting the spigot on a lave.

Re: Confusion on rear brake plate

If by the 'spigot' you mean the part that is left in the frame when you use the quickly detachable rear hub and the repro one you have bought is the same as an original, then I would be more inclined to open out the brake plate...

You may have the brake plate from a non WD rigid bike (just post war) which doesn't have the quickly detachable facility and uses a wheel spindle without the 'spigot' fitted...

However, I would suggest before you alter anything you measure the hole in your brake plate and post that dimension here...

That can be compared to the WD brake plate dimension and may at least determine where the problem lies before making any alterations...Ian

Re: Confusion on rear brake plate

Thanks for taking an interest Ian. the diameter in 18.65 mm. The frame that I want to fit it to in a 1949 ZM20.

Re: Confusion on rear brake plate

I have done some research on Draganfly. I think I have the rear brake plate for 1949-63 M20's 66-6098 and I am trying to fit the plate to a WDM20 wheel with three bolt brake drum attachment. The plate I should have is 66.6123 1938-48. Apart from the hole size is the rest of the plate 1949 the same as the 1938?

Re: Confusion on rear brake plate

I have done some more research the plates look different, the centre of the 1949 looks thicker and has an extra reverted plate on the inside when compared to the WDM20. looks like I may have to buy another plate.
