I was losing the will to live trying to straighten out some of my original sump plates so I thought I'd chance my arm on an Indian manufactured one...

It arrived today, well packed and I'm happy to say, a good copy of the original....

So if you need one they can be had at a reasonable price on e bay....Ian

My sump plate, don't know if if is original or not, has a tab that bend upwards to the down tube of the frame with two bolt holes either side. What should this be for?

I think I mean a sump guard rather than plate.

Pat, it sounds like the 'in-between' variation on the Sump plate. Here is a comparison photo of the later one and one I have that has those mounting tabs and a 'U' plate to attach to the front down tube.

I can get you some dimensions of that U-shaped bit? The small nuts and bolts are 1/4" BSC.

Hi All - re the sump guard.
Pat this might be a bit late but have just measured my U bracket (right one in photo above). The U shaped bracket is 3/4 inch wide 14 SWG (0.080 inch) and the tabs are bent at about 2.5 degrees to account for the slope of the down tube. It doesn't fit the wrong way up.

My bash plate is the one on the right in the photo (early 1942 bike) the hole for the sump drain is 1 1/4 inch diameter and its centre is 5 11/16 inch from rear edge and 2 5/16 inch from left edge. Hope this helps - check Ian Wright's post 10 March under Early M20 Bash Plate he is making them.

Yes the 3/5Sw and 3HW all used the same sump shield. I made some comments the other day here. I'm not sure if I have any specifications to hand. Would have to check later. Ron
