April 7, 1945 Donald Mayford FIFE was killed in action during the liberation of the Netherlands. He was buried at the Canadian Military Cemetery at Holten.
We intend to lay a wreath on his grave on Sunday April 5, 11 hrs.
Everybody is welcome, on an English bike or not!

For new forum members or anyone who doesn't know. Here is Canadian Corporal Don Fife at that little shrine in August 1944. He was promoted to Sergeant at some time before he was killed, just before the war ended, and was buried in Holten Cemetery in Holland.
He became a bit of a mascot of ours with Hans leading the field to raise money for an official plaque to his memory on Juno beach and instigating the plaque that we installed at the shrine. I am planning to visit the shrine over the D Day week this year, anyone is welcome to join us for the ride out. Ron

I cant remember if I posted this before, but anyways, this is a photo of the cenotaph in Parrsboro Nova-Scotia, a few miles away from where Sgt.Fife grew up. He was killed so late in the war that news of his death was not relayed in time to the people making the plaque for the cenotaph. His name was added to the bottom afterwards as you can see.

The weather was fine but we missed the sound of roaring engines......hopefully next year again?
70 years is a long time but we may never forget he gave his life for our freedom.

This is a lovely remembrance. Today we went to Eden Camp - lots of people remembering all the sacrifices of the last war, some re-enactors there and a nice little Royal Enfield. peter
