Hello All!
I now have my Indian 741 project and was wondering if anyone could provide any more information about the bike from the serial number! It looks to be 7412139!
Robert. 741B So design date July 1941 and B for Battery (coil ignition). I have never seen any information regarding frame and census numbers. Production stopped in 1944 with the surplus machines being sold of to the public at a loss to the Indian Motocycle Co.
Apart from a few on test to the US army and some being supplied to other US essential services, they were all destined for export under the lend lease scheme.
Yours is an earlier one than mine which I have down as 1942 with frame/eng No 4005.
Thanks Ron! Another interesting thing about this bike compared to the pictures I've seen is that the headlamp bracket fixes to the girders via a three bolt fixing whereas the others seem to have bracket welded to the girders! Unfortunately I'm missing the bracket but hope to find one along the way! Maybe this was an earlier feature?
Yes mine has the bolt on bracket also. So does my mate Tony's which has a later frame number than mine. I don't know why or when the change took place. Ron
