Have been to the “oorlog in beeld” (“the war in the picture”) exhibition in Bruges today. There were approximately 10 pictures of French photographer Léon Gimpel there. The story goes that Léon Gimpel saw some children playing wargames in the streets of Paris in 1915. The next four weeks he made some attributes: a gun, an aircraft, … The French magazine “l’Illustration” refuses to publish the photographs that he made, but to the delight of the Parisians the Société Lumière did show these pictures to the public…
