Today I was looking at an M20 with the following numbers
Frame WM 20351
Engine WM20 35023
C520508
the crankcases had the plug on the timing side for the oil telltale
also a set of 1950 ish Michelin golden arrow tyres
The bike was said to come from Scotland.
Any ideas on the dating?
If you check out the frame numbers page, you'll be able to estimate a rough date of manufacture. So frame number of 20351 early June 1940 and engine number of 35023 late February or early March 1941. Hope this helps..
Frame No. WM20 351 was an M21 that went to the Egyptian agent, Forsyth in Cairo during November 1939. Probably for Egyptian government use but not strictly a 'WD' motorcycle.
Oddly enough it was advertised as an M21.
Lots of bits post war, levers etc.
Registered 1960 but still on 1950 tyres
The pressing over the frame tube in the tank is square edged ?
Also the top casting joining the frame top and rear(vertical) tubes has a ragged hole in the top ?
