I am in the process of working my way through the entire mechanicals on my 1942 WD M20. I tackled the job of opening up and cleaning the Smiths Speedo Drive. I used the technical article and was successful in getting all the screws out of the drive and only broke one of the screws.
Does anyone know what size, thread type and length the retaining screws are that hold the gear inside the drive? I think I will clean out the old threads and use all new screws if possible as I reassemble the cleaned drive unit.
Those screws are peened over, that's why they sometimes break when unscrewing. They'll be a B.A thread.Off to the hobby shop for you or use small rivets.
Thanks for the information. I carefully ground off the peened portion and was able to get 3 out of the 4 out without breaking them off.
I am in the US and not sure if I can find any BA threaded screws here. I will most likely have to add them to a Draganfly order and wanted to see if anyone knew the size.
