Hi there, sorry for being off topic but I have a question about our ’54 B31. We need to source 4 new bushes for the rear shock absorbers (units 14 ¼” top to bottom). The original bushes say ‘GIRLING 9046 741’ on the rubber with an ID of 3/8”. We have tried the part supplied by Dragonfly (42-4155 superseded to 4981-55) but they are not right. The inside surface of the eyes at the end of our forks is curved so at the centre the ID (7/8”) is smaller than the ID at the outer edges (1”), suggesting we need a ‘cotton real’ or ‘bow tie’ shaped bush. The ones supplied from dragonfly slide in with a snug but easy finger-push fit and are cylindrical. I have some photos that might help but I’m not sure how to post them. Does anyone know if I can find the correct parts anywhere? Many thanks in advance, Michael
Unfortunately it looks like the trail has gone cold...these are the replies I got:
British only: 'Michael: We do not have the bushes you are looking for. Trevor'
London Douglas MCC: 'Thank you for your e-mail regarding Girling Bushes. You don't give your Membership Number in your message, so I am assuming you are not a Douglas owner, if this is correct then because of insurance restrictions imposed on us we cannot supply spares to anyone who is not a fully paid up member. I did a quick check and couldn't find you listed. If you have indeed you are a Douglas owner and have jointed our Club I apologise, just let me have the membership details and I will check for you if we have stocks of the bushes.'
I have tried Russell Motors, Burton Bike Bits, Hagon...
If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear from you!
This is the latest from British only: 'Michael: I have never seen a bush like you describe and I've been doing this for over 50 years. The ones we have under that part number, are CORRECT to the best of my knowledge. They are the same as what Dragonfly supplies. Trevor'
