I am trying to add some reliability to a 1954 M21 by going to an electronic ignition. The bike was idling before I started, but it was not running well. I am confused about setting up TDC. I am using a boroscope to help determine TDC. When the valves are both closed, the piston is on the bottom of the stroke. I pulled the timing cover and the gears are aligned correctly. The dash matched up with the intake and the dot matches up with the exhaust. When they are matched, the piston is on the bottom stroke. It looks like the intake valve is opening as the piston rises. Does this make sense.
I figured it out. I put it at TDC and then removed the valve cams. I then rotated the pinion until the key was at the top (zero degrees). I reinstalled the cams and it works.
