Managed to damage my petrol pipe. Anyone know what material are they made from? I have some thin brass tube I am thinking of soldering over the damaged section to repair it if it is compatible. Other than that I was wondering if copper brake line might be a suitable replacement solution?
I used malleable copper pipe, sometimes sold as soft copper tube. It's used in the refrigeration industry and is available in all the usual imperial sizes. Lots of the car restoration people sell it (or ebay)
I used a product called Kunifer (I think that's the correct spelling) which is usually used for brake lines. I think the benefit is that it doesn't 'work harden' as easily as normal copper tube. In saying that though, the stuff I had on my bike lasted 74 years without any major issues!
My main problem was soldering the T junction. It's tricky to solder all joints without messing up one you've already done. But then I'm not a great at soldering. I after 4 attempts I soldered the tap, and carb ends, and gave up with the one at the junction and bought a neat brass compression fitting, normally used I think for brake lines again. Will certainly make cleaning much easier in the future.
