Hello all;
Can anyone help with an exploded diagram of the earlier B1 gearbox fitted to 1946 B31??
I bought a gearbox in pieces, and would like to know the correct reassembly, especially the spacing shims on the shafts.

Hello Darren; Thanks for your reply.
I do have a copy of that drawing, but I don't think it is specific enough, particular for the B1 box, as the drawing covers 3 variations.
I did eventually find a fairly good drawing, and it should be a help.
I'll just have to battle through it, and ask questions if I'm stuck.
The key to a good rebuild with these, is careful attention to the end floats I think.

Hi Kieth...There is a mixture of bronze and steel spacers in these boxes and they must be fitted in the correct locations...Both spacers come in different thicknesses for end float adjustment, as well as having the option to fit shims...

The box is a development of the box from the late pre war models and the wartime (WB30) gearbox and the two types share some parts, as well as using some M20 parts..

The gear set is basically a much lighter, scaled down version of the M Series gearboxes and much of the ratchet and pawl assembly is the same.

Consequently the method of operation and rebuild procedures and principles are much the same...

The kickstart ratchet assembly and method of fitting, and location of the return spring are the main differences apart from the obvious dimensional ones...

I do have some used spares for these boxes if you get stuck...Hopefully you have a good kickstart ratchet assembly as these seem to be quite scarce...Ian
