How would you disable a m20 from starting, IE you leave it alone at a show and don't want anyone starting it.

Take you immobiliser with you when you leave the bike behind, at least that is how they did it during the war.

Easiest and what I've done in the past, is to slacken off the points adjusting screw, or even remove it. You have to have a feeler gauge to put it back though.

replace the spark plug with one thats had the electrode cut off.

A really neat trick was a short length of plastic rod drilled to fit over the spark plug terminal.
Take the original one with you as it is tiny. slip the dummy insulating one on the plug then replace the HT lead.
Other good idea is to stop your bike by running the carby dry.
You can adjust the clutch arm on the box so that the clutch is disengaged and watch their leg drive into the ground.
You can remove the timing plug for a similar result, just remember to pul the plug & give it a few swift kicks save some clot dropping some thing down it.

A dummy HT lead ( or burned out one ) would work well.

Now if you have a really sick mind you can get brass insertion webbing and a dummy HT lead wire the coil up to the handle bar with the brass insertion webbing on the twist grip with a bit of purple horn wire to the bummy horn button and also wait for the screams.

A long gone member had some old trembler coils and he fitted one of these under the saddle of his daily ride.
Oddly enough he never had his bike stolen.

Before SWMBO was SWMBO se went to Sydney Uni and use to remove the distributor to coil lead.
Ony car that parked in that street fro 4 years & was never stolen.

I'm with Ken on this. I never really want to be out of site of my bikes. Not the fear of someone stealing it so much, as the parts they can nick. It's one reason I keep my M20's NGK plug cap in a glass case in the shed
I certainly wouldn't want to bugger around removing/replacing my points More likely that thieves would lift your bike into a van anyway if they're that intent on stealing it.
