A friend of mine is considering this sloper for sale, but I noticed it has a V-twin type footchange gearbox instead of handchange?? I presume some previous owner wanted to modernise but strange having the right footbrake with a right footchange? Makes me wonder where on earth the rest of the V-twin bike is? %%htmlItem_1%%

Wow, a 600, great project and looks very original, apart from the gearbox. Don't believe footchange was an option for the slopers from factory. Michiel

Douglas is that the sloper on Gumtree in Australia? It looks very original except for the gearbox. 600 OHV were made from 1933 to 1935. I have a 1934 model with sidecar, they all had hand change on the right hand side which is also the brake side in Australia although have seen photos of some with left side brake pedal.

Slopers from 1933 to 1935 had a 600 cc sloped engine and did not produce a 500 sloped engine for those years. The tank is wider than the earlier slopers too.

Also the 600's had a different top-end with the exhaust pipes running outside the fronttubes using parts and design of the vertical engined 500 model.

The earlier 500 slopers had a completely different topend with the exhaust pipes running inside the fronttubes and a very nice but fragile rockerbox with the rockers running on small rollers.

The 1932 sloper is a transitional model with the new: 4 speed gearbox, heavyweight frontforks, the wider/bigger tank with instrumentpanel, combination levers and a quick detacheble rearwheel, but still with the original 500 engine.

Are you inferring that any sloper had a robust rocker box ?
I am 1/2 way through steel pinning then building up weld over the pins on one rocker box and there are three more to do. Admttidly these are all on much earlier slopers but the more I do the better those SV motors look.

Your not alone Trevor...The M24 rocker box is the same, very easily damaged/cracked. No doubt other pre war OHV models suffer as well...

Best if we don't talk about post war Triumph cylinder heads either... ..or or ZB34 barrels and some gearbox outer covers I could mention..

Even, shock horror,...Brough Superior crankcases..My mates have cracked twice and it's not uncommon apparently...Ouch..££££.... ....Ian

No, only that the later ones are a little less fragile

It is nice there are still people with the skills and patience to repair such castings. I have seen nice reproductions of early sloper ones in the UK.

The rockerboxes are one of the nices parts of the engine to my eyes but sadly often hidden by the tank...
