whats with my frame number?

Hi There,
i'm struggling to I.D my frame. i am unsure of its age or even if its an m20/21 frame.

the frame number starts with ZM21 (this is also on the registration certificate) and i can't find any reference to it for any BSA.

the number is in the right spot and relatively clear to read, (the only letter that i struggle with is the 'M' in 'ZM'.

to my eyes, it is straight and shows no signs of being altered, ( unless it has been ground off and completely replaced)

my engine number is a WM20 number.

any idea's??

Thanks

Re: whats with my frame number?

Hi Richard,
ZM prefix is for bikes built from '49 to '52.
Both the M20 and the M21 shared the M20 frame and that is why you wont find a reference to an M21 frame so I would say your frame number has been altered maybe to make an erroneous matching numbers bike.

If you post a photo of the frame number the experts here will be able to tell you if the letter font is correct.

No matter if it's an M20 or an M21 it would always have M20 as frame number and in your case ZM20. This can only be a frame number that has been changed.
