Re: GENUINE LUCAS 6 VOLT 2\" AMMETER

Thanks for the heads up Noam. The 2" ammeter in my G3 tank is made by Hobut, which is not a name I'm familiar with. I guess I should have a Lucas ammeter, so ordered one of these while stocks last. Ron

Re: GENUINE LUCAS 6 VOLT 2\\\" AMMETER

Ron, better have a period correct one, then an obvious fake???

Anyway, good original Lucas ones can be found at jumbles for less.

Just checked the parts lists, but the ammeter is not specified as Lucas, so yours may be OK after all?? (picture???)

Cheers,

Lex

Re: GENUINE LUCAS 6 VOLT 2\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" AMMETER

Made by Howard Butler and Co Walsall, West Midlands. Its the first one i've seen on a bike, interesting you learn something every day!

Could well be original if Lucas parts got scarce, they've been going for 85 years!

Re: GENUINE LUCAS 6 VOLT 2\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Thanks for that. Maybe I'll just keep it for it's scarcity value. Ron

Hi Ron,

I don't know if the "Hobut" is correct,
But it is lovely.

Re: GENUINE LUCAS 6 VOLT 2\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Yes Noam I'm liking it more myself now, and apart from Ian's information that they were supplied to Special forces machines, it was probably only on officers machines

I've ordered one of the ebay ammeters which he clearly repeats as being original. Perhaps these are a genuine post war model? But whatever it won't break the bank.

I have an old Lucas catalogue that Dave Plumb gave me. It quotes Matchless G3 1936-39 fitted with ammeter BM4 with part no 369075.

Re: GENUINE LUCAS 6 VOLT 2\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Yes Ron,

The 1939 parts list mentions DF-369-075, DF stands for dull chrome, for the bezel. Even the 1941 propietry V.O.A.S. parts list doesn't mention the ammeter.

So it could have been another make I guess?? will investigate further.

The handfull scarse pictures I have of the paneltanks, are not clear enough to identify the ammeter!

Cheers,

Lex
