The best electronic regulator on the market at the moment is the DVR2 from Dynamo regulators Ltd, It will fit inside your existing regulator box & this unit is the only electronic regulator I know that will actually charge a flat battery, but let him know whether it is pos or neg earth. Give Mike a call on 01489 880552, he is very helpful.

Is the same as the DVR2 from Manor thech' which is very good.

I fitted one easily into an old original Lucas.
When I fitted it, I measured, and it gave a super steady 7.2V.
I just gave it way few days ago Micha.

I would not presume to say that one is better than another unless I had first hand knowledge of any problems. I only say what know.
I am running an AO unit on my Indian special which is coil ignition and therefore relies on a battery. I am running a 1940's Miller dynamo with two 5 amp Cyclon gel batteries wired in series to give 10 amps. So far, so good.

Most electronic regulators will not charge a battery that has gone flat, I have tried several different types including K tec etc, DVR2 will, tried and tested.

Yes, not only most of the electronic units would not charge a flat batt,
It is also not allowed to use it with no battery or a "dead" (not charging) one.
The electronic unit needs the voltage and load on the batt/output side,
In order to function, much like an alternator on any car.
If used with no load, the output power is being built on the
Regulator's transistors, and with no load to spill it onto,
It boils itself.
Once or twice, when I had no other option, as I had a flat batt at night, I run
It with lights on, as a load and the regulator survived.
If it happens at daytime, it is best to pull the dynamo connectors
(F+D split bullet) till obtaining a reasonably good batt..
